Furniture Design Inspirations

There is rarely a better way to perceive inspiration other than what Vincent Van Gogh had to say about it Do not quench your inspiration and your imagination; do not become the slave of your model. Everything we do is inspired by something or the other, however small or large it may be.

Most creative people are inspired by observing things in everyday life, however mundane they may seem. Whenever you plan to redecorate your house, its the perfect chance to test new home dcor styles and accessories. For instance, if your room has slanted ceilings or multiple doors, it can be more difficult to organize your furniture in the best way possible.

Inspiration for creativity can come from anywhere but when it comes to furniture design, it draws a lot from architecture, living spaces, and even history. For instance, PortsideCafes leather furniture draws its inspirations from a multitude of sources but remains embedded in an overarching theme that speaks volumes about Indian aesthetics and art. Many of the studios original leather furniture are inspired by vintage streets in Old Delhi which housed famed poets like Mirza Ghalib, stretching so far as to encompass cinematic themes, art deco style influences, and even classic roads in Mumbai. The list of inspirations goes on.

Technology is another huge inspiration that has the ability to enhance design, not just technically but also creatively. Before the modern design movement, there was more emphasis on furniture as decoration and its value was determined by the amount of time it took to create it. In the 20th century, a shift emerged that began focusing more on the function and accessibility of the furniture. The contemporary movement was seeking originality and technical innovation. It was a dramatic change from earlier designs. Gilded carved wood and patterned fabrics gave way to the simplicity and geometry.

This was also due to a mixture of influences. Technically innovative materials and manufacturing methods came forth from the Werkbund and the Bauhaus School, Art Nouveau and exotic foreign influences. Contemporary furniture designers and manufacturers continue to evolve design, always looking for new materials to produce exclusive shapes, in contrast to grave ornamentation.

The designs that propelled this shift were produced in the middle of the 20th century and most before 1960. Globally, they are still regarded as symbols of the modern age, becoming an icon of style and erudition.

Insights Into Interior Design Designing In Style. Part Iii Traditional – Georgian

Global Interior Design Consultancy Company in London, UK for interior design services.
Interior design has always been impacted by fashion trends – both historically and in the modern day. In this article series, “Designing in Style,” I explore the meaning of style for interior designers. I draw on my experience working alongside many of London’s best-known interior design teams.

This third article in my series continues my discussion of traditional/period design, with a focus on the Georgian style.

In terms of dates, the Georgian period is generally considered to have extended from 1714 until 1830. It has since inspired one of the most popular traditional interior design schemes.

London design was considered world-class in Georgian times – UK craftspeople were highly skilled and uniquely specialised. The wealthiest classes insisted on the highest quality, with exacting standards in terms of dimensions and proportions.

A few designers were particularly famous during the Georgian era. Their names, ideas and concepts live on today in the many homes and residences that feature Georgian-inspired interior designs.

William Kent lived from 1684 until 1748 and was an architect/interior designer who is best known for his tables and chairs which featured extravagant gilt decorations and strong connections to Greek and Roman insignia. Today these traditional designs continue to be used by many London Interior Design Consultancies that specialise in the Georgian style.

Thomas Chippendale is a name famous to many discerning Londoners. This cabinet-maker lived from 1718 until 1779 and designed furniture that was less ostentatious than that of William Kent, consistent with British (and London) tastes at the time, and yet exceedingly graceful and refined. Interior designers today will adopt either Chippendale’s original designs or re-envisionments/replicas of his originals.

Finally, Robert Adam was an architect and interior designer who dominated the 1770s with his vivacious use of Roman and Greek motifs, including urns, tripods, and mythological iconography.

Today, London interior design consultancies tend to be cautious with Georgian designs, recognising that this style can look pretentious if too pronounced. Larger, more spacious London mansions with tall ceilings are best suited to the Georgian style of interior design.

The next article in my series “Designing in Style” moves away from historic traditions and focuses in on a timeless interior design classic – the rural countryside.

In fact every home speaks a different lifestyle and it should be decorated accordingly. You can use wooden furniture and accessories or metal ones depending upon the dcor of your home.
Kitchen is one of the most important rooms in a house. It was once used only for cooking or serving food but nowadays people believe that a beautiful kitchen enhances the beauty of a home. For your kitchen you can get dinning sets with table cloths and kitchenware which you can buy from a home accessories store.
Kitchen accessories that are generally available at a home accessories store include a lot of items such as canister sets, cooking pots, cutlery holder, bed trays, bread box, knife sets, dish drainers, and espresso maker. Different types of kitchen furniture are also available in different designs in home store furniture. Different styles of furniture include bakers rack, servers, kitchen nooks, china cabinets, storage, sink and wall cabinets, utility cabinets, and serving carts.
When buying accessories for your kitchen you can choose to buy frying pans, cooking pots, sauce pans, and pressure cooker. You can choose to buy single items or entire cookware sets depending upon your requirements. You can choose to buy bed trays with folding legs made out of wood. Every kitchen must have a cutlery set. You can choose to go for sets that are either designed as trays, holder, or baskets. You can go for utility cabinets made of wood or metal. You can choose to go for readymade or custom made furniture for your kitchen. There are different types of kitchen carts from which you can choose. Microwave carts and serving carts are two types that is widely available at most stores. The carts can have different kinds of finish and you can choose from the home store furniture according to your kitchen requirements.
However, when buying your furniture and accessories you must take two things into consideration–the space available in your kitchen and the dcor. If your kitchen is small then you must choose to buy furniture very carefully. You must measure the space available in your kitchen and accordingly make your order.

Double Glazing Quote

Energy usage is often determined by how much heat is transferred to and from a building envelope via inadequate insulation and air leaks around doors and windows. Adding insulation to the attic and walls is good, but double-glazed window and door glass contributes greatly to the reduction in heat transfer.

An insulated glass unit is fabricated from two pieces of glass, an aluminium or vinyl separator filled with a desiccant and a sealant that holds it all together. This double-glazed unit may be glazed into doors, windows, skylights and other fenestration products. The energy loss through conduction is reduced by as much as seventy percent, depending upon the type of glass used and the depth of the dead-air-space between the pieces of glass. As well standard annealed glass, there is also low-emissivity glass that uses a microscopic metallic film to reflect heat either back to the inside or outside, depending on which surface the film is applied to. Inert gasses may be added to the unit for further reduction of heat transfer.

The energy transfer ratings of glass are as follows: Single glazing, 5.0 Double glazing, 3.0 Triple glazing, 2.2 Double glazing with Low E glass, 1.7 Double glazing with Low E and Argon, 1.2 This means that the heat transfer of the glazing in windows and doors may be reduced by more than seventy percent.

Leaky windows and doors are another contributor to energy transfer. Modern advances in weathering technology; weather-stripping, tighter manufacturing tolerances, new materials and improved technology; have produced window frames that all but eliminate heat transfer around sashes and through gaps in frames. Coupled with double-glazing, window units are now quite energy efficient.

Modern window designs allow for glazing for up to one inch in depth, so coupled with the tighter seal around sashes, these windows greatly reduce energy loss, enough so that they will usually pay for themselves in three to five years by the reduction in energy bills for both heating and cooling. When new windows are installed in a properly prepared opening, modern caulks and flexible sealants are used, thus the entire building envelope is tighter with less drafts and energy loss.

In addition to the benefit of lower energy costs, the new windows produce little or no draft. Also, the outside noises are reduced by up to forty percent. New window in a residence or commercial building are energy efficient, better for one?s health and contribute greatly to the quietness of the building interior.

Modern window frame material also contributes to the energy use reduction by diminishing the heat transfer through the frame material as well as in the better weather-stripping. Polyvinyl fluoride, PVC, is often used in residential windows because of the non-conductive nature of PVC. Where aluminium commercial windows are used, they have a non-conductive material poured into a pocket in extrusions, which is then ?debridged,? the conductive aluminium on the bottom of the pocket is removed.

It is a wise choice to select double glazed window units when upgrading any building for both aesthetic and energy related reasons. The new windows add to the appearance and value of the structure and provide a healthy, quiet, energy efficient environment for homes and offices.

Adding Palm Trees to your Home Landscaping

Palm trees can be a great asset to your home’s landscaping, adding vibrancy and tropical style to your front- or back-yard’s design. A good looking yard is essential to increasing the value of your house, and palm trees can be just the thing your yard needs to stand out. Here are just some things to keep in mind if you’re thinking of adding palms to your home landscaping. >

The Right Time for Planting
The best times for planting palm trees in your yard are the spring and summer months. Palms are tropical plants, and as such they need warm weather and a lot of sunshine. Now, if you already live in a tropical or Mediterranean climate, you can start planting any time of the year.

Do Some Research
Look into the growth patterns of your palm trees before you buy them. Pay attention especially to how wide they grow and how tall by visiting a great palm tree nursery. You don’t want to end up with palms that are too big for your yard or with root systems that intrude on your home’s foundation or cause damage to your pool or other elements of the yard.

Don’t Plant Too Close to the House
This is one of the biggest mistakes that people make when adding palm trees to their landscaping. Palms may look small and harmless when they’re young, but they grow very quickly into huge tropical giants that can take over your roof and cause damage to your walls and windows if you position them too close to your house.

Spread Them Out
You don’t want to go overboard and start planting as many palms trees as will fit into your yard. Three is typically a good number, depending on how big your outdoors space is. Position the palms in various parts of your yard in a way that is visually appealing and organic. Don’t cluster them together or plant them in evenly spaced rows. The trick is to make palm trees an accent in your landscaping. You still need to think about traditional design elements and other plants that will look good as part of the yard. Adding colorful plants and flower around your plant trees will make them look even better.

Cern Large Hadron Collider Uses Ceramic Vacuum Chamber

In the largest scientific experiment ever undertaken, protons fed into the LHC through Kyocera’s ceramic vacuum chambers quickly reach speeds of up to 299,792 km per second — just below the speed of light — in the world’s largest particle accelerator.

The chambers are made of fine ceramics because metal would produce a time lag in the magnetic fields that drive the protons. Kyocera’s chambers maintain the vacuum state present in the whole LHC system to keep the racing particles from hitting air molecules, which reduce the protons’ speed or alter their precisely controlled direction.

Protons fed into the LHC through Kyocera’s ceramic vacuum chambers quickly reach speeds of up to 299,792 km per second. When necessary, protons can also be removed from the LHC by alternating magnetic fields for example, when the LHC is to be shut down.

“As a specialist in fine ceramics, Kyocera custom-developed these vacuum chambers in close collaboration with CERN for the LHC’s unique requirements,” said Mitsuru Imanaka, president of Kyocera’s European operations.

Kyocera was the only company in a position to meet CERN’s exacting specifications for the vacuum chambers. “The technical demands of making a fine ceramic component increase in direct proportion to its size and shape,” Imanaka explained. “These vacuum chambers exceed one meter in length, requiring us to maintain a uniform, homogenous structure over a large area. Kyocera’s material and processing expertise have allowed us to produce fine ceramic components to overcome technical challenges at CERN and in many other industrial and research applications.”

The LHC showcases the unique properties of Kyocera’s precisely refined ceramic materials. Ceramic serves as an electrical insulator, allowing particles to be freely manipulated in the LHC’s highly electromagnetic environment. In addition, ceramic is more resistant to extreme temperatures, friction and corrosion than other materials — critical attributes for such a world-leading scientific project.

What might you ask does this have to do with pottery? Pottery and ceramics have been an important part of human culture for thousands of years. From prehistoric storage jars to tiles on the space shuttles, pottery and ceramics have played a key role in innumerable human endeavours. But how do we define them?

Technically, ceramics are those things made from materials which are permanently changed when heated. For example, clay has chemically-bonded water in it which will cause it to slake down (disintegrate) when a dried clay object is put in water. Once heated (fired) to between 660 and 1470F (350 and 800C), the clay is converted to ceramic and will never dissolve again.

All clay is a ceramic material, but there are other ceramic materials, as well. Glazes are also ceramic materials, because they permanently change during firing. Industrial ceramics include a range of materials such as silica carbide and zirconium oxide.

Decorating Office Cubicles Tastefully

If you are an office worker, chances are your workspace consists of a cubicle with cubicle furniture. Many companies are furnished with it because of its affordability, variety of designs, configurability and ease of installation. Cubicle furniture not only looks good, but is efficient as well, especially with the addition of trays, shelves, file organizers and other accessories.

Working in a cubicle for 40 hours a week or so, you are probably equally concerned with making your space comfortable. Being able to personalize it according to your tastes and needs is important to you. But before you start, here are some things to keep in mind when decorating office cubicles.

Make sure that your decorations are in keeping with the culture in your office. Do you work in a conservative environment such as a law office, or do you work in advertising, where offices are more open and creative in nature? Also, if you use your cubicle for receiving guests and clients, it is best to decorate conservatively to project a more professional image.

Our cubicle can still be a reflection of your personality, even with conservative decorations. Things that are important to you, as well as your hobbies and interests can be seen in the items you choose to display. These include family pictures, themed decor and plants.

You can also choose decorations for their ability to inspire and motivate. These include posters with appropriate messages and prints. Clocks, calendars and bulletin boards placed on your desk or hung on your cubicle wall also serve this purpose.

You can make people visiting your cubicle more welcome with your decorations. You can display unique, humorous and thought-provoking items to serve as icebreakers. Unconventional desktop accessories, unusual travel souvenirs or something as simple as a jar of candy can jumpstart conversations and make transition to business matters go more smoothly.

There are many colorful, fun and attractive items available in the market that can be used as cubicle decorations. However, you should only get the ones that wont distract you from your work. Desk toys and gadgets in particular can have a negative impact on your productivity if these make you spend more time tinkering with them than doing your job.

Multi-cultural and multi-racial work environments are common nowadays. With this in mind, you should take care that your decorations do not offend your co-workers and other people. Do not use items that might be interpreted as profane or disrespectful of others religious beliefs, gender, political views and race.

Furnishing Your Flat

When renting a flat it is quite common for tenants to rush into buying cheap quality furniture to simply fill their new home on a temporary basis. This could be furniture purchased from garage sales, a student shop, or even charity stores to try and seek out a bargain.

Another method is to use unwanted furniture from family or friends to try and save all costs and this of course will save a lot of money, besides the reality that they may be damaged, mismatching, or the wrong size.

Typically, this newly purchased furniture will then be thrown out or attempted to be sold on once the tenants contract is up and new furnishings will be bought for their new house or flat. Or alternatively the same process will happen again if their next contract is on a short term basis.

These methods of trying to be cost effective may seem a really simple and successful alternative to purchasing high quality expensive furniture but there is a big problem. If you choose to purchase low quality furniture for your home, than your flat will in turn also have a cheap, low quality appearance and as furnishing your home is usually used to reflect your personality and good taste, it may of course not have quite the effect you desired.

Whether you are living in your flat for 6 months, a year, or two years it is still a long time to live with unwanted furniture and as moving from place to place can feel rather hectic and rushed sometimes, the chance to sell the furniture before you leave may not happen as planned and so therefore any profit is lost.

Another option alongside furnishing your flat with cheap items is furniture hire, or furniture rental. In the long term this method is much cheaper than buying rushed furniture to fill your flat and also means a guaranteed quality in the items which you may not find with those that were bought at a low price.

You can agree on a contract for the furniture on a long term or short term basis which means that as soon as your flat contract is up you can adjust your furniture contract for the same day. Your items will be taken away with no hassle at all.

Furniture hire does not just stop at beds, wardrobes and desks either. Most companies offer the chance to rent bath and bed linen, cutlery, lamps and even rugs too, making sure that your flat is just the way you dreamed it to be.

All furniture has its own beauty and utility; however it is the discretion of a homeowner how he/she plans to utilize the said item for room dcor and functionality. This sense of proportion is applicable for use of double sized beds also.
